Windows Vista, released in 2007, was a huge overhaul for Microsoft, transitioning from XP.

Although they anticipated an overwhelmed response, it was a "flunk." PC manufacturers did not make specific drivers for Vista because of the small percentage of people using it. Therefore, people using Vista had to do so with outdated or generic drivers, or, often, no drivers at all for some connected devices.

All of these problems made Windows Vista a failure for Microsoft, which is why Winodws 7 was rolled out about 2 years later!

Winows Vista's latest service pack is Service Pack 2, ad support for Windows Vista will end on April 11, 2017.
